While I was blog hopping this week, I saw a recipe for snickerdoodles. This morning as I was ironing, I kept thinking about snickerdoodles, and since anything is better than ironing, espcially something to do with cookies, I took a break and made a batch.
Of course, I couldn't remember where I saw the recipe, so I had to find my own. I turned to my favorite recipe site: www.recipezaar.com and found this recipe:
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
Cream shortening, sugar and eggs.
Sift together and stir in flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Roll into balls the size of small walnuts.
Roll in mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon.
Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in medium to hot (400 degrees) oven until lightly brown but still soft. These cookies puff up at first, then flatten out with crinkled tops.
They just melt in your mouth! So good! I can't remember ever having a snickerdoodle before. The whole batch is not staying in my house...I'm going to pass on the goodness (and calories! LOL) to some of my neighbors!

These are a FAVORITE of ours and I like to dunk them too...now at Christmas I mix red and green sprinkles in with white sugar and omit the cinammon..they look a littel more festive...

I've been making these since I was about 13. I like to make them extra big and take them out of the oven while they are still a little gooey. They are extra soft and yummy. I also add a tsp of vanilla. They are my all time favorite cookie!
Yummy!! I love cookies and these snickerdoodles look amazing!! I just may have to make these tonight after church! Now that would be a delicious treat for the family! Yummmmm!!!

Well, for those of you who have been enjoying them for years...I'm jealous. ;-)
Tori! It was you! Well, thanks for the idea! Maybe next time I'll try your recipe! =)
I have such wonderful memories of having snickerdoodles...always....at my grandmother's house! She had a brown crock cookie jar that made a certain noise when you opened the lid...and it was always filled with those cinnamon-sugared treats. I don't remember having any other cookies...other than some special ones at Christmas.
Glad you discovered them.
Mmmmmm.......
Your cookies look delicious. Thanks for posting the recipe.
Snickerdoodles are my favorite cookie of all time. I have a snickerdoodle cupcake recipe too that I adore and we make that for birthdays in our house. It has a cinnamon frosting that is heavenly.
You are making me so hungry :)
PS- Thank you so much for all of the wonderful knitting tips. I am completely new to all of this so I really appreciate the help!
