~Name Crochet~

This is what I have been working on:

It is a wedding gift. I am planning on having it framed, which is where the cost of this project is involved. I've had the pattern forever, and the thread was less than $3. Of course, it involved a little time, but it was so much fun to watch the letters grow and it gave me something to do in the evenings!

I have been happy with Hobby Lobby's framing service for two other things I've done, so I'll probably stick with them. Now I just have to decide on a background mat color. It needs to be dark, and I want it to be a color that won't look "dated" in a few years. Any thoughts?

Now I'd like to do one of these for myself, but in looking around my living room and dining room, we really don't have a good spot to hang it. So I'm thinking of doing one that says "L-O-V-E" and putting in in the bedroom. Maybe. Or maybe I'm done with filet crochet for a little while. LOL

It's beautiful - I love filet crochet! Would black be too harsh of a dark color? Black is always a classic color, but not sure if it's appropriate.

I've been wanting to try filet crochet for a while, but I always seem to have something more urgent to do. Now that my baby is almost four months old (and more importantly, sleeping through the night), maybe I will take up a filet crochet project. You have inspired me!

Tammy, Your crochet work is beautiful! I made one of these for my daughter when she got married over 4 years ago---her last name has 7 letters in it, and the frame was huge. I used a brown mat for the background. The brown was almost the color of your blog background (the sides).

I don't know if you've already picked a background color yet, but I was thinking a dark coffee brown as well - there could be a lot of frames that match, so it could go with any kind of home decor. What a wonderful wedding present!

Thanks for the input! I considered black, but went with a dark brown.

After learning the cost of getting this framed, I think I will hold off on making one for myself! LOL

It's beautiful! I've done a few crochet projects, but I've never tried doing anything with writing in it.

Chandra, I used a pattern booklet I bought about 8 years or so ago. I looked and it is out of print. Leisure Arts #3110, Your Name and More in Filet Crochet
by Vivian Floy Smith is the one I used, maybe you could find that or something similar online or for sale on Etsy?
