The kitchen kind. *smiles*
Over the last year or so, I have learned to enjoy puttering about in the kitchen. I have always cooked more or less from scratch, but I am loving making even more from scratch. Like bread. With my KitchenAid Mixer, it is so easy to make up a loaf of bread! And I can ensure that the ingredients in it are so much better than the store loaves!
Today some plans fell through with a friend, and I found myself with a clean house, dinner in the crockpot, and a lot of extra time on my hands.
So...I set to
The first thing was to mix up a container of chocolate oatmeal. I have the recipe written right on the container. Easy peasy.
To warm up the kitchen, I made granola using my basic recipe (with coconut oil rather than butter, and honey for sweetener), added some hazelnuts toward the end, and mixed in chocolate chips while the granola was still warm.
Followed by two loaves of wheat bread (the warm kitchen helped the bread rise beautifully).
Tested out a bagel recipe (meh). I need to come up with a different recipe if I want to continue making bagels.
And then I completed my afternoon in the kitchen by making some elderberry syrup. My daughter is coming down with the sniffles so hopefully this will ward off the worst of her cold.
And lest you think every day is this marvelous for me in the kitchen, just know that the other night we had Little Caesar's pizza for dinner.

Wow, that chocolate oatmeal sounds awesome. I think I'm gonna try it.
It's been so long since I've been to your blog, i'm glad to see it's still going.
Happy Hump day!
I would love to have a day like this in my kitchen. Unfortunately, with three kids it isn't happening right now but one can dream...
Hi Tori! Nice to "see" you. :-)
Julie, with just one it's sometimes hard to get kitchen time. Yesterday my daughter was more cooperative than usual, which was very helpful. :-)
Thanks for the inspiration for what to do with my morning, that just freed up! I love it when something happens and I find myself with "free" time
I love pizza--anytime! And thankfully my husband often volunteers to call in for pizza if it's been an especially busy day. Sounds like you had a very productive time in the kitchen! It makes me feel great when days like that happen!
Lili I love to spend "free" time in the kitchen too. :)
Deb, I like our pizza nights too - they usually come at a busy time so it's nice not to have to worry about cooking.
I'd like to hear more about your bread making endeavors, that's something I've wanted to try but I haven't really researched it that much! Sounds like an incredibly productive day. Yay for kids cooperating!
It's something I've just started, but have been enjoying very much! The recipe I linked to has been very successful for me! She also has a sandwich bread recipe which looks good.
