~My First Crochet Project~

When I was a teenager, I taught myself how to crochet. I had a book from the library that had a few crochet patterns in it, and I picked a doily pattern and started working on it. I would sneak into my bedroom when I supposed to be doing dishes or some other task - to crochet. Isn't that what every teenager sneaks off to do? LOL

Because I was using a thicker thread than the pattern called for, the doily turned out much bigger than the pattern said it would. But I was enthralled with the finished product, and didn't mind at all that it was twice as large!

It makes a cheerful, summery centerpiece for the coffee table.

Wow! Pretty impressive, especially for a first project! Funny about slipping away to work on it! :)

you are KIDDING. That was your first project? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, though! :)

Your doily is much more impressive than my first crochet project. I was five when my mom taught me how to crochet, and after making chains long enough to go from one end of the house to the other, I convinced her to show me the next step: single crochet. I decided to make a doll blanket out of some leftover yarn. My gauge was off and, rather than being a square or rectangle, the blanket ended up being shaped like a trapezoid. Lol.

You should put these in your Etsy Shoppe!

LOL! My first doily was supposed to be 12" and it ended up being 22" in diameter! I used the big doily as a table topper for years.

That is excellent! I started crocheting an afghan for my mom in the 70's when I was a teenager & still have it unfinished. I start crocheting project & never finish them lol...

To clarify, this was my first big project, after I had crocheted one or two cross bookmarks.
