Strawberries!

Sallie's post on strawberries reminded me that it is indeed strawberry season here in Michigan! I'm not used to the growing seasons yet--I still think like a Californian! Oh well...

After work, I'm heading off to the strawberry farm to get a flat of strawberries! Strawberries are so delicious! I plan on freezing some, but putting most up as jam. I love to give homemade jam as small gifts (hostess gifts, thank you gifts, little gifts to someone who needs "picking up", etc.) and I've been totally out of jam since last fall!

PS. I also think Strawberry Shortcake is adorable. *Grin*

I like the old Strawberry Shortcake. The new one is so typically modern.

Okay so now I'm craving strawberries. I'll have to go find some.

Strawberry Shortcake is so cool! I have an old one, from when they first came out. Yeah, aren't the modern versions a shame?

O I wouldn't mind some of that strawberry jam LOL Texas is not known for it's strawberries and all I get are the green sour ones at the grocery store.

Hm, I was thinking how perky the new Strawberry Shortcake was looking! LOL

Remember how the dolls used to smell like their names? I had Blueberry Muffin and a Lemon one that I can't remember the name of. Lemon Custard?

I keep looking to see if those extra dolls will be resurrected but so far no luck.

I've also seen Holly Hobbie recently! Now there's a flashback for you!

one more quickie post......Washington strawberries are jamming strawberries, whereas California strawberries are more for market and table use. So sometimes I can go in the grocery store and see MY HOME TOWN SANTA MARIA STRAWBERRIES right here in Puyallup, WA!

This is a big deal to me. Silly, I know. But the coolest ever was when I was checking the half-flats (as I always do) and saw that the berries were from MY BEST FRIEND'S DAD'S STRAWBERRY FARM. I did a happy dance and bought a flat right there.

Gee, I should go blog this instead of taking up all this comment space!

Colleen, ewwww to the green strawberries! I don't like buying strawberries from the grocery store!

Erin, Lemon Meringue! I remember, because I had a Strawberry Shortcake coloring book, and I sounded out meringue phonetically, and my parents laughed about it. =)

I also had a SS doll that blew strawberry scented kisses, and her hair smelled like strawberry too.

And yes, I know what it's like to find fruit from your home town! I have seen fruit from the very company that my dad works at, and also different packing sheds that I know right where they are! It's fun. But I've never been compelled to buy them. Haha
