I normally don't post about "health food". However, food is an important part of our daily lives! It is vital to know what is going into our bodies! I wrote this post almost two months ago.
I had gotten into the habit of drinking coffee and tea with creamer and I realized after several months that I was feeling quite dull, headachy, and listless during the day. I started to wonder why I was feeling this way, and then I looked at the ingredient list on the creamer container!
Here are the ingredients in non-dairy creamer (just plain, no "special" flavors)
Corn syrup solids
Vegetable oil (partially hydrogenated coconut or palm kernel, canola, hydrogenated palm, soybean, cottonseed or safflower)
Sodium caseinate (a milk derivative)
Dipotassium phosphate (moderates coffee acidity)
Mono- and diglycerides (prevents oil separation)
There are only 10 caleries per serving, but the flavored varieties have many more ingredients and the caleries jump to 60 per serving.
The last time I visited our local health food store, I looked for a healthier alternative. I found powdered cream.
Fat free dry milk
Vitamins A & D
There are only 7 caleries per serving.
Which sounds more appetizing to you? I made the switch from "fake" to "real" a few weeks ago, and I feel more alive and alert during the day!
Note: I've looked at the grocery store, and the only healthy alternative available is cream (liquid, in the refrigerator section). I don't wish to buy cream each week, so the powdered cream works the best for me!
And another note: Most of the time "fake" costs way less than "real". And yet, "real" is so much better for you that it's worth the extra cost. I noticed an immediate change in how I felt when I switched creamers!
