A Film for Friday: The Shop Around the Corner

Friday nights just seem like the perfect night of the week to curl up on the couch and watch a film, don't they?

My all time favorite film is The Shop Around the Corner, played by Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullivan. The actors and actresses all did a fantastic job; so fantastic, that I usually watch this movie several times a year! *Grin*

The review on Netflix.com says:
In Ernst Lubitsch's charming, Budapest-set romance -- later remade as You've Got Mail -- Klara (Margaret Sullavan) and Alfred (James Stewart) fall in love, even though they've met only as pen pals and don't know each other's names. Over Alfred's objections, Klara is hired in the shop where he works. As they continue their loving correspondence, they embark on a combative working relationship. What will happen when the truth comes to light?

That's funny. My all time favorite is the first remake of it - In the Good Ol' Summertime with Judy Garland and Van Johnson. I saw this movie first, so it probably adds to my bias.

I agree about Friday nights being a good night to just curl up and watch a movie...unless the Braves are playing that is..LOL!! I have to say that my all-time favorite movie(s) is/are Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. I watch those over and over again throughout the year. I also love Sarah Plain and Tall...but my first dvd of that series got scratched and so I only have Part III to that series. I need to get the first two again.

I've not seen that one. I love Jimmy Stewart as well, and I liked You've Got Mail I seem to remember (not as much as Sleepless in Seatle though). :o)

I would love to find a music box that plays "Oh Chechezna" (...or whatever that word is?!)

It's a charming movie. I'm trying to get the local library to stock The Thin Man movies so I don't have to spend $39.99 at Costco!

Do they carry those on Netflix too?

Calla Lilly, I didn't know that Judy Garland did a remake of this movie. I knew of "Pillow Talk" and "You've Got Mail". I'll have to look for this movie too. =)

Erin, yes, Netflix carries The Thin Man series.

Tammy, thanks for this recommendation. We immediately put it on hold at our library, got it this week, and watched it Thursday night. We really like Jimmy Stewart, and this one was no exception. Very good!
